Islandia Village Mayor Allan M. Dorman joined Public Safety Code Enforcement Supervisor Kim Davis to take part in the PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) program, which took place at Andrew T. Morrow Elementary School on February 5.
Both Mayor Dorman and Ms. Davis sat with Ms. Maricel La Cruz’ second-grade class as Ms. Davis read The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be by Joanna Gaines. The book explains how everyone has a unique set of skills and how life is more beautiful and vibrant when everyone’s differences are celebrated.

On December 20, the Village of Islandia and Creation Equity transferred the keys and deeds to three female war veterans — Melissa Pandolf, Sabrina Lacy and Catherine Doherty — and their families at a special ceremony that took place at the Col. Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12144 in Islandia.
The selection of who would receive these homes was based on the need for the often overlooked community of female veterans. Creation Equity donated and rehabilitated these properties.
“These veterans served our country and I’m pleased that we were able to work with Creation Equity to thank them for their service and have a positive impact on their lives,” Allan M. Dorman, Mayor, Village of Islandia, said. “We would like to thank Creation Equity for their assistance in providing these veterans a home, just in time for Christmas.”

On November 4, the Village of Islandia held its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Triangle. Mayor Allan M. Dorman, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, was joined by village board members, local war veterans, and members of the Col Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #12144, the Lakeland and Central Islip Fire Departments and the Central Islip-Hauppauge Ambulance Corps to honor those who served and continue to serve in the armed forces.
During the ceremony, Mayor Dorman asked those in attendance to remember those local residents who served in the military and have since passed on. An invocation was delivered by Tom Brauner, Chaplain, Col. Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #12144.
Following the ceremony was the grand reopening of the VFW post. A new extension was built to provide a larger meeting space for the veterans. Visitors were treated to refreshments during the reopening.
The much-anticipated addition to our recreational facilities is now ready for action, and we can’t wait to see the courts buzzing with activity.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who made this project possible through their support and dedication. These courts are a testament to the strong sense of community that defines Islandia, and we hope they bring joy and camaraderie to all who use them.

On September 11, the Village of Islandia held a special ceremony at the First Responders Memorial in honor of the memories of five local first responders who were killed during the September 11, 2001 attacks: Raymond M. Meisenheimer, Peter Brennan, John P. Napolitano. Glen K. Pettit and William J. Mahoney, Jr. This event commemorated the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
Mayor Dorman was joined by village elected officials, employees and residents and members of the Col Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12144 in remembering those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks.

On May 27, local war veterans, residents, and members of the Col. Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12144 and the Lakeland and Central Islip Fire Departments joined Allan M. Dorman, Mayor, Village of Islandia, for a special Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Triangle. The ceremony honored those who sacrificed their lives for this country.
The ceremony featured a rendition of the national anthem by Kingston Johnson, and an invocation by Tom Brauner, Chaplain, VFW Post #12144. Vincent Dekeris, Commander, VFW Post #12144, addressed the attendees and described what Memorial Day means to him.
There was also a reading of “In Flanders Field” by Denise Schrage, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Village of Islandia, and “Youngblood” by Mayor Dorman. The ceremony ended with the laying of the wreaths, a 12-gun salute and the playing of “Taps.”
