For those who have been struggling to keep the weight off this summer, the
Village of Islandia will have its "Weight Watchers at Work" meetings every
Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 1100 Old Nichols Road. Each
session is 12 weeks, with the next session beginning on September 8. New
registrants may arrive at 5 p.m., while all other members may arrive between
5:15 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. for weigh-in.
At these meetings, people will learn to get in shape while eating healthy.
Village residents are welcome to bring a friend or neighbor while being in
the comforts of Village Hall. The cost of the program is $144, or $12 per
week and must be prepaid.
The current group has had great success with the program, losing a
collective 138.6 pounds in the first 10 weeks. "We are proud to offer this
program as a community service to our residents," said Allan Dorman, Mayor,
Village of Islandia. "We feel it is important to have these programs as a
way to encourage our residents to participate in an active, healthy
lifestyle."
