Islandia Village Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Village of Islandia celebrated its 25th anniversary on April 11 as village residents were served breakfast by village employees and members of Boy Scout Troop #272 of Ronkonkoma. Paul Pontieri, Mayor, Village of Patchogue, came to the celebration to congratulate Mayor Allan M. Dorman on the village's silver anniversary.

During the breakfast, residents listened to music played by local DJ Robert Gerardi and got a chance to meet the "Statue of Liberty" and "Uncle Sam." Upon leaving, they received a Douglas fir sapling in commemoration of the village's milestone.

The village was officially incorporated on April 1, 1985, after voters approved a referendum. On May 22, 1985, village residents voted for its first mayor and board of trustees.

The Village of Islandia is home to over 3,000 residents and over 1,300 businesses. It encompasses 2.25 square miles and contains 275 acres of Greenbelt, including Lakeland Park and Islandia Farm. The village is comprised of the Hauppauge, Central Islip and Connetqout School Districts, and the Hauppauge, Central Islip and Lakeland Fire Districts.
