Approximately 350 people turned out for the fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of Islandia Village Hall on April 4. Fifty of the eggs had prize vouchers in them. All the children received a basket filled with candy, and a visit from The Easter Bunny and “Spongebob Squarepants.” Joe Guida, Islandia’s own “Singing Bus Driver,” came down to entertain the children. Everyone was treated to hot cocoa, coffee and cookies.

In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, there was a Coloring Contest. The five village board members each chose their three favorites. For the Jellybean Counting Contest, 12-year-old Nayib Perez came the closest without going over, estimating 2,420 jellybeans in the jar. The actual count was 2,472 jellybeans.

Islandia Village held its third annual tree lighting ceremony today at Village Hall. Children visited the mini-Village Hall, and received candy canes from Mrs. Claus. As people enjoyed coffee and hot chocolate, DJ and village resident Rob Gerardi entertained the crowd with a number of festive Christmas songs. The event was capped off with a lucky little boy helping Mayor Allan M. Dorman to hit the switch and light up the tree. Santa Claus later arrived, riding on top of a fire engine from the Central Islip Fire Department. Children lined up to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas, and how they have been good this year.

3rd Annual Bar-B-Que

Third Annual Bar-B-Que

On Saturday, July 12, 2008, the Village of Islandia hosted its 3rd Annual Village of Islandia Bar-B-Que. This year’s theme was “All American” red, white and blue. 629 adults and children attended.

We served hamburgers and hot dogs with all the works. Soda, water and ice cream helped to quench our thirst in the hot sun. Small pools were set up for the little ones while two misters helped to cool off the adults. There were pony rides for the children and our DWI course was set up with over 100 people signed up to participate.

Our resident DJ Robert Gerardi played patriotic songs, along with hits for all ages. The Central Islip Fire Department was on hand to teach the children about the dangers of fire. Everyone was given a patriotic t-shirt and hat, and the children received toys and water pistols to help cool them off.
